I painted this in honor of Gondor’s new year, which in The Lord of the Rings, occurs on March 25th every year to mark the destruction of the One Ring and celebrate the start of the Fourth Age of Middle Earth. I’ve always imagined Pelennor Fields to be full of wildflowers. As I painted this, I imagined I was sitting on the hill overlooking Minas Tirith, sketching the city as though I were a traveler.
Painted on cold press paper with watercolor, colored pencil, and ink.
This original painting is signed by the artist.
